Period trackers you can use without an account
AYWA makes a period tracker, and it’s one of the options here. We say so wherever it comes up, and every fact about another app links to that company’s own page.
Short answer
These iPhone trackers work with no sign-up: Apple Health’s Cycle Tracking (built in), Euki, drip and AYWA (ours). Each keeps your records on your phone.
Flo needs an account, but its Anonymous Mode removes your name and email from it. Clue has required an account since 2019 and stores records on its EU servers.
The trade-off: with no account there’s often no backup, so a lost phone can mean lost records. Apple Health can sync through iCloud, and AYWA lets you add an account later just for an encrypted backup.
Why skip the account?
An account links your cycle records to an identity: an email address, a name, a sign-in. That’s what lets a company restore your data on a new phone. It also means the records sit with that company, tied to you.
Plenty of people would rather their period dates stay on their own phone, especially in the US since 2022. Some just don’t want another login. Either is a reasonable choice. The point is to choose knowingly.
Apps that work without one
Apple Health: Cycle Tracking
Built into the Health app (Browse → Cycle Tracking), with no separate sign-up. Apple says Health data is encrypted on your device and protected by your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID. If you sync Health with iCloud, it’s encrypted in transit and at rest, and end-to-end encrypted when two-factor authentication is on, which is the default.
Euki
Euki has no user accounts at all and doesn’t collect your email. It says your data is stored only on your device, with no servers and no cookies, and it works offline. You can set a PIN. Deleting the app deletes your data everywhere.
drip
Open source, with no account. drip says everything you enter stays on your device, and its prediction maths is published for anyone to check.
AYWA (ours)
No account needed. Your records are stored on your iPhone, there are no ads and no tracking, and Ask AYWA (the optional AI feature) is off until you turn it on. If you want a backup or to move to a new phone, you can add an account later with Sign in with Apple or email; the backup is encrypted, and you can delete it any time.
Flo, with Anonymous Mode
Flo normally uses an account (email, Apple or Google). Its Anonymous Mode lets you use Flo without your name, email or technical identifiers linked to your health data. The catch, by Flo’s own help centre: an anonymous account can’t be restored if you log out or change phones, and you must register before Flo can send you an export.
Clue: account required
Clue used to work without an account. Since 2019 it requires a free one, and stores your data on its EU-based servers so you can restore it on a new phone.
Side by side
| App | Works with no account? | Where records live | Backup or new phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Health | Yes | Your iPhone | Optional iCloud sync, end-to-end encrypted with two-factor authentication |
| Euki | Yes (no accounts exist) | Only your phone | None; deleting the app deletes the data |
| drip | Yes | Your device | Check drip’s FAQ for backup options |
| AYWA (ours) | Yes | Your iPhone | Optional account for an encrypted backup; export a file any time |
| Flo | Anonymous Mode only | With your Flo account | Registered accounts can restore; anonymous ones can’t |
| Clue | No | Clue’s EU servers | Sign in to restore |
The backup trade-off
No account usually means nobody can restore your records for you. Clue gives exactly this as its reason for requiring accounts: phones get lost or stolen. Euki is upfront that deleting the app deletes everything.
You can keep privacy and still protect your history:
- Export now and then. If your app can export a file, save a copy in a private place. In AYWA it’s You → Privacy & your data → Export my records.
- Write down your period start dates every few months. If everything else is lost, those dates are what a new app needs for its estimates.
- Use a backup that only you control, like Apple Health’s end-to-end encrypted iCloud sync, or an optional encrypted backup you can delete.
A two-minute privacy check for any app
- Read the App Store privacy label (“App Privacy” on the app’s page). Look for “Data Linked to You” and “Data Used to Track You”.
- Find the words “stored on your device” or “servers” in the privacy policy.
- Check whether an account is required, and what it’s for.
- Check export and delete. Can you take your records and delete them yourself, without emailing support?
- Check what any AI feature sends, and whether it’s on by default.
Questions people ask
Which period tracker doesn’t need an account?
On iPhone: Apple Health’s Cycle Tracking, Euki, drip and AYWA all work without signing up. Flo needs an account but offers Anonymous Mode. Clue requires an account.
Does Clue require an account?
Yes. Clue says it has required a free account since 2019, storing data on its EU-based servers so you can restore it on a new device.
Is Flo’s Anonymous Mode the same as no account?
Not quite. Flo says Anonymous Mode removes your name, email and technical identifiers from your health data, but an anonymous account can’t be restored if you log out or switch phones, and you must register to get an export.
What happens to my data if I lose my phone?
With an app that stores data only on your phone and has no backup, it’s gone. Apple Health can sync through iCloud, and AYWA offers an optional encrypted backup. Exporting a file now and then also protects you.
Is Apple Health private for period tracking?
Apple says Health data is encrypted on your device and, when synced to iCloud with two-factor authentication on, encrypted end-to-end so Apple can’t read it.
